Lula, Mississippi
Military
2
On February 3, 1863, Union forces blasted the Mississippi River levee to enable a flotilla to use Moon Lake and the Yazoo Pass in a futile effort to reach Vicksburg by way of the Coldwater, Tallahatchie, and Yazoo rivers. Federal forces were stopped by Confederate batteries at Fort Pemberton, near Greenwood, on March 11-April 5, 1863.
