This property was owned in its early years by Friedrich William Flato, Jr., S.L. Mateer and brothers, George Matula, Anton Freytag, and John H. Sloma. The John H. Sloma family sold it to Doctor F.W.B. Rockett in 1946, and in 1948 he built the present-day brick structure and basement for his medical practice. Doctor Gene Schulze bought the property in 1957 to live in and use for his medical practice. In 1999, Mike Schulze inherited the building from his father, and in 2000 and 2001 he transformed it from a health clinic into a modern residence and open commercial space. Mike Schulze's life was featured in the book "Mike," written by his late father before Doctor Schulze's death, and the book chronicles his life and career in Flatonia as an abstract artist, sportswriter, and philanthropist.
