Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park in Atlanta preserves the Sweet Auburn places most closely tied to Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, ministry, and legacy, including his birth home, Ebenezer Baptist Church, and the tombs of King and Coretta Scott King. Emerging from neighborhood preservation efforts, the area gained federal recognition in stages before becoming a national historical park in 2018. It also interprets the broader civil rights movement through exhibits, Fire Station No. 6, the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change, and sites linked to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Together these places form both a protected historic district and an active memorial landscape.
