A.V. "Bubba" Akin served his country honorably in World War II. After his military service, he served fellow veterans as the Veterans Service Officer for the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, covering Tift, Turner, Ben Hill, Irwin, and Worth counties. He later became Area Supervisor over 21 South Georgia offices and retired after 34 years of service. Following his retirement, he served on the State Veterans Service Board until his death. He was also very active with the American Legion, holding various post, district, and department offices and serving on the National Commission for Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation. He is remembered as a dedicated, able, and active servant for all veterans.
