Byrne's Ferry Covered Bridge was a Gold Rush-era crossing on the Stanislaus River between Chinese Camp and Copperopolis, on the line between Calaveras and Tuolumne counties. It grew from P. O. Byrne's ferry, operating by 1849, after earlier bridges at the site failed in 1853 and were swept away in 1862. The best-known bridge, built that same year by the Union Bridge Company, was a covered Howe truss with an auxiliary arch and served for decades as a toll bridge through the foothills. In 1902 the counties bought it and ended tolls, but Tulloch Reservoir later submerged the site after failed preservation efforts.
