First Baptist Church of McGregor grew from a Baptist lineage that began with the Onion Creek Baptist Church, established in 1858 at present-day Eagle Springs in Coryell County, and later extended through the Comanche Springs Baptist Church. In 1884, the Rev. John McClain, the Rev. Martin Isbill, and about 30 members of Comanche Springs Baptist Church established the First Baptist Church of McGregor. The congregation built its first church building at this site in 1886, joined the Waco Baptist Association in 1890, and hosted that association in McGregor in 1895 and 1907. By 1911, Sunday school enrollment had reached 280 pupils. Fund-raising begun by the Ladies Aid Society in 1908 helped produce a new sanctuary in 1914. The church called its first full-time pastor in 1923, built a parsonage in the early 1940s, reached 642 members by 1960, added a new brick parsonage in 1961, and completed a new sanctuary in 1969. It has historically supported numerous local, state, national, and international missionary activities as well as community outreach programs and activities.
