The Tolu Site, near Tolu in western Kentucky, was a prehistoric Mississippian center occupied roughly between 1200 and 1450 CE, with its main habitation likely between 1200 and 1300. The settlement originally had three mounds, including a burial mound and a platform mound that supported a structure. Its pottery and layout connect it to the Angel phase and to the related “Kincaid Set” of Mississippian centers, linking it to major regional sites in Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Excavations in 1930 by W.S. Webb and William D. Funkhouser documented it as one of Kentucky’s mound centers, and the area later yielded an unusually detailed Mississippian fluorite statue.
