In 1890, J.K. Gwynn and M.C. Williams founded Floyd City on land donated by James B. and Caroline V. Price of Missouri. During the May 28, 1890, election, Floyd City won the county seat, but because a post office named Floyd already existed in Hunt County, the town's name was changed to Floydada. The community grew quickly as homes were built and businesses were established. The Santa Fe Railroad reached the town in 1910, followed by the Quanah, Acme and Pacific Railroads in 1928. Ranching and agriculture sustained Floydada through the years, while schools and churches provided strength and stability to its citizens. After the September elections, the City of Floydada was officially incorporated in October 1909 with 58 of 75 votes in favor, and the population was approximately 500. Today, Floydada continues to serve as a central point for agriculture and authentic country living.
