These lock houses were built in 1916 to house the lock masters and chief engineers and their families. They were occupied by different lock masters and engineers until the lock was demolished in 1965. After that, the Rice's Landing Authority rented them to families. In 2000, they were declared the only two historical lock houses existing together, and they were given to the Borough Council for use as a park office, with one to be available for rental.
