Built atop the schoolhouse in 1905, a bell rang out across Dillsboro to call boys and girls to school, summon help to fight fires, sound joyful tunes at war’s end, and toll the old year out while ringing in the new, before eventually standing silent as a dedication to the memory of all who have served the Dillsboro community.
