Two hundred years ago at Andover Forge and throughout New Jersey, Irish settlers, who formed one third of Washington’s army, pursued their vision of freedom through participation in the Revolutionary War. In peacetime here, they contributed engineering and construction skill to the creation of the Morris Canal for the economic expansion of their adopted country, drawing on the well documented canal experience of their homeland.
