Built in 1832, this structure served as an office for the Delaware & Hudson Canal Company. Between 1829 and 1898, the D&H gravity railroad carried coal from mines to markets and passengers from Carbondale to other communities. In 1858, a stone building was erected behind the office building to house the Gravity Shops, and it was later listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
