LaVista Park is a 93-acre community park off Route 3 in the Village of Godfrey. Acquired in 2000 with assistance from the Great Rivers Land Trust and a state OSLAD grant, it is a large, relatively natural part of the Godfrey park system and will remain a natural park for passive use because of its unique natural attributes. The Discovery Garden teaches children through organic means about the natural source of food, giving them a tangible learning experience that connects them with the soil and the natural cycles of the Earth and fosters an appreciation of nature that increases their Earth Literacy. The garden also provides an alternative and creative outdoor activity, encourages the holistic growth of the community's consciousness, helps children learn and remember their connection to their food, expresses the culture and values of Godfrey and the surrounding area, and enhances opportunities for social interaction among cultivators.
