Lutz Children's Museum in Manchester, Connecticut, began in 1953 when the local Parent Teacher Association Council established a museum to enrich classroom learning and involve the community in children's education. It grew from Hazel P. Lutz's collection of teaching objects, first housed at Waddell School, then moved in 1958 to Cedar Street as a private non-profit, and in 1982 to the former South School building, when it took its current name. Focused on childhood learning, it offers hands-on exhibits, animal-based education, classes, outreach programs, and outdoor education through Oak Grove Nature Center, while exhibits such as Main Street 1943 connect local life to World War II.
