One hundred yards south, Major William Wilson built a tavern in 1800. Among the many notables who stopped there were Presidents Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, and Andrew Johnson. Other distinguished guests included Henry Clay, Governor Sam Houston, and Governor James C. Jones. The building burned in 1951.
