Magdalena Ridge Observatory in New Mexico is a high-altitude research site in the Magdalena Mountains that supports fast-response observing, precision imaging, and time-domain astronomy. Its 2.4-meter telescope, operating since 2008, can rapidly track low Earth orbit satellites, near-Earth asteroids, and other Solar System targets, and has supported NASA, Spaceguard, lunar impact observations, and spacecraft monitoring. The observatory also uses a primary mirror originally made during competition for the Hubble Space Telescope. Its largest undertaking is an optical and near-infrared interferometer designed for far greater resolving power than a single telescope, with work advancing again after funding setbacks. Additional instruments support exoplanet studies and robotic time-domain observations.
