The Arboretum at Gustavus Adolphus College is a 125-acre educational landscape in Saint Peter, Minnesota, developed on former farmland beginning in 1973 after planning started in 1972. Guided early by biology professor Charles Mason, it was organized to reflect three Minnesota ecosystems—conifer forest, prairie, and deciduous forest—alongside formal gardens. Over time it grew to include restored wetlands, teaching ponds, named groves and prairies, a meditation area, sculpture, and the Borgeson Family Cabin, linking the site to Swedish pioneer settlement. Officially called the Linnaeus Arboretum from 1988 to 2021, it was renamed after concerns about Carl Linnaeus’ role in the history of scientific racism.
