In Oswego, New York, the H. Lee White Marine Museum, better known as the H. Lee White Maritime Museum, preserves the city’s maritime heritage. Founded in 1982 by Rosemary Sinnett Nesbitt, a local professor and Oswego’s historian, it was led by her for 25 years until her retirement in 2008. Among its most important vessels is the tugboat Nash, a National Historic Landmark and one of the few surviving U.S. Army vessels associated with the Normandy landings of World War II. The museum also preserves Derrick Boat No. 8, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015, linking Oswego’s waterfront history to maritime work, transportation, and wartime service.
