Sutter Creek's first fire bell was ordered by William M. Tucker (1843-1910) for the Sutter Creek Fire Company. In the late 1800s, it hung in a wooden bell tower at the fire station near the corner of Spanish Street and Keyes Street. After the fire district formed in 1905, the bell was relocated in 1907 to a 60-foot steel tower at the north end of Main Street and Hayden Alley. An additional fire bell was installed at the south end of Main Street in 1913, where it is located today.
