Nathaniel Grigsby went to school with the Lincolns and was the brother of Aaron Grigsby, who married Abe Lincoln's oldest sister. He visited in the White House. In his dying protest, he declared his opposition to what was called the Democratic party, saying he had watched it closely since the days of Jackson and believed that all the misfortunes of the nation had come through this so-called party, and he warned people to beware of this party of treason.
