Established in 1818 as an individual claim by James Briton Bailey, later a member of Austin's colony, this plantation was associated with a man born in 1779 who was tall, fearless, and of Irish stock. At his request, he was buried in 1833 standing up, facing west, with a gun at his side. His restless ghost is said to walk this prairie.
