Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park occupies a barrier island on Florida’s southwest coast near Naples, where it provides access to the Gulf of Mexico and the Cocohatchee River and includes a notable hard-bottom reef. Its recorded history begins in the late 1800s with trader Joe Wiggins, who operated a trading post and exchanged goods with settlers. Collier County acquired the land in 1964 with help from Lester J. Norris and Dellora A. Norris, whose names formed “Delnor.” Florida purchased the property in 1970, and the state park opened in 1976. Today it is valued for recreation, wildlife habitat, and its popular beaches and waters.
