Naked Mountain Natural Area Preserve is a 356-acre protected area in Nelson County, Virginia, dedicated in 2006 to conserve rare plants and unusual natural communities. It was created to protect an uncommon stand of shooting-stars and a small population of the globally rare Torrey's mountain mint. The preserve includes rocky clearings within forested slopes, among them a low-elevation basic outcrop barrens community found on dry sites with thin, basic soils over amphibolite bedrock. Its forests also represent the uncommon mountain/piedmont basic woodlands community. The land remains privately owned under a conservation easement held by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and is generally closed to the public except for arranged field trips.
