Maiden Springs Fort, also known as Reese Bowen’s fort, stood on the hillside to the west and was garrisoned during Dunmore’s War in 1774. Reese Bowen, its founder, fought at Point Pleasant in 1774 and was killed at King’s Mountain in 1780.
