Instructional Steel Sculpture was designed by Duane S. Ellifritt, PhD, a WVU 1970 graduate and Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at the University of Florida. It was designed in 1985 and first constructed in 1986. Plans were furnished by the American Institute of Steel Construction, and the sculpture was donated by John E. Kerr, a BSCE WVU 1970 graduate and President of Ohio Valley Steel.
