The sesquicentennial of the Mormon pioneers' arrival in the Salt Lake Valley was celebrated from 1847 to 1997. Recognized for contributing to the settlement of this Gila Valley were Native Americans, settlers from Mexico and the eastern United States, and pioneer families sent by leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons).
