Lakewood Village Hall, a Dutch Colonial structure, has long served as a center for village government and community activities. It was built in 1915 to house the citizen-oriented Lakewood Hose Company, which dated from 1895. Village resident and automaker J. Ward Packard donated the land, $1,500 toward the $7,500 construction cost of the fire station, and a 1915 model "T" Ford chemical fire truck, the first motorized fire apparatus in the greater Jamestown area. The building retains much of its original appearance, including the 70 foot hose drying tower. A mid-20th century addition on the west side of the original building housed an expanded fire department, and the arched windows on the front replaced the original hinged double doors. In 1995 the Fire Department built a new fire station on Packard Blvd and Chautauqua Ave, and the Fire Company's space at Village Hall is now occupied by the Lakewood-Busti Police Department. The early fire truck and first alarm bell are on display at the George V. Blackstone Fire Museum at the present fire station.
