Roanoke Marshes Light was a screw-pile lighthouse in North Carolina marking the south entrance to the channel through Croatan Sound beside a marshy shoal and over one of the area’s deepest bottoms. A light was first established there in 1857, and the better-known structure was lit in 1877, with its house and beacon raised on iron piles driven into shallow coastal waters. In 1955 it was replaced by an automated light on a shorter tower. Efforts to move the old lighthouse failed after its decommissioning, and the house was lost in the sound. A replica was dedicated in 2004 at the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum in Manteo.
