In October 1867, the firm of Olmsted & Vaux selected this site for a great park. It took almost 30 years to pass the correct legislation, and in 1895 Branch Brook Park was built. Visionaries who understood the need for open space in urban areas created the first county park system in America. This property is listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.
