Beulah Elizabeth Burke founded and served as the brand architect for the name, motto, and colors of Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first Greek-letter society for African American collegiate women, established in 1908. She was also the first chapter organizer and taught Latin, English, and home economics in public schools and colleges in Georgia, Kansas, New Jersey, and Delaware.
