Man o' War, who lived from 1917 to 1947, is buried here with the final remains of several of his sons and daughters: War Admiral, born in 1934 and dead in 1959, the 1937 Triple Crown winner; War Relic, born in 1938 and dead in 1963, the leading sire of two year olds in 1950; Brushup, born in 1929 and dead in 1956, the dam of War Admiral; War Hazard, born in 1938 and dead in 1944, winner of the 1941 Alabama Stakes; and War Kilt, born in 1943 and dead in 1956, winner of the 1945 Demoiselle Stakes. Isaac Burns Murphy, born a slave, rose to become the nation's most famous and respected sports figure and is considered by many to be the greatest American jockey of all time. He won an unmatched 44% of his races and was the first jockey selected for membership in the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame.
