John T. Andrews IV, a fourth-generation Penn Yan resident, was honored in connection with these gates for his leadership in Keuka Lake civic and preservation efforts. As executive vice president of the Keuka Lake Association, he initiated this project in 1974. He was also instrumental in founding the KLA in 1956, the Outlet Perimeter committee in 1957, and the Watershed Perimeter committee in 1963, and he became the first chairman of the Keuka Lake Outlet Preservation Association in 1978. He was remembered as the 20th century man of Keuka Lake.
