Lands End is a coastal park and headland at San Francisco’s northwestern edge, where the Pacific meets the Golden Gate. Long before Spanish settlement in 1776, the Yelamu Ohlone lived along this shore. After the California gold rush, the area became a popular excursion destination, with the Cliff House, Point Lobos Avenue, stagecoach service, and later Adolph Sutro’s steam railway drawing visitors. Today’s trails partly follow those old railbeds and pass cliffs, overlooks, shipwreck sites, and the ruins near Sutro Baths. Lands End remains significant as both a scenic oceanfront park and a landscape preserving layers of San Francisco’s recreational and urban past.
