This plane’s last flight ended in Memphis, Tennessee, after which it was towed by truck through Memphis to a rock quarry on the Mississippi River, loaded onto a rock barge, brought to Morgan City, lifted off the barge by crane, and towed by truck to the Patterson Airport, where it remained for more than 10 years until the museum was built. It was to be repainted and raised. These planes were used for air superiority, close air support, interception attack, reconnaissance, and air shows. Some foreign countries currently use this model, while in the U.S. it is used for unmanned targets for missile tests, and some private owners use them for air shows. The plane had an empty weight of 30,320 and a loaded weight of 62,000, a speed of 1,485 miles per hour at 4,800 feet, dimensions of 62 feet 11 inches long, 38 feet 11 inches wide, and 16 feet 5 inches high at the tail, a range of 1300 miles, and two J-79 turbo jets with 17,900 pounds of thrust each. Its records included speed, endurance, and altitude, and its weapons included air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, bombs, and guns. A total of 5195 were built.
