Near Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia, the Museum of Aviation grew from Guy Orlando Stone’s donation of aviation memorabilia into one of the most-visited museums in the Department of Defense. Founded in 1980 and opened to the public in 1984, it expanded through the 1990s into a major United States Air Force museum with multiple exhibit buildings and dozens of historic aircraft. It also houses the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame. Among its most notable artifacts is the SR-71 Blackbird that set the world absolute airspeed record in 1976. The museum also supports education through STEM programs, outreach, and workforce-focused learning.
