The Oklahoma Route 66 Museum opened on September 23, 1995, and is operated by the Oklahoma Historical Society with a focus on the history of Route 66. Its redevelopment was funded with federal, state, and private money, and the citizens of Clinton, Oklahoma contributed over $200,000. Will Rogers and Route 66 became symbols of American optimism and gained international recognition, sharing Oklahoma with the world.
