Dunbar's Camp was the furthest point reached by Colonel Thomas Dunbar, who commanded the 44th regiment of General Braddock's army. The Washington-Braddock Road lay one tenth of a mile to the north. Braddock and his retreating army encamped here July 11-12, 1755, and Braddock spent his last night on earth here before dying at the Orchard Camp on July 13 at 8 p.m. Washington spent several days at this camp.
