The first school opened in 1896 as a community school in Morgan Frances’ log cabin, with Miss Fanny Doyle as its teacher. A new school was built in 1897 and operated with one of the first special use permits from Trinity National Forest. The school flourished until Hayfork School District absorbed it and closed it in 1951. The last teacher, Mrs. Bertha Phares, made the closing entry in the records: “finis”.
