Maverick Canyon is a steep-sided canyon in the Pequop Mountains of northeastern Nevada, in Elko County. Its importance lies chiefly in its role as a practical passage through this mountainous region, carrying Interstate 80 as the highway climbs the range from the west. By providing a route across the Pequop Mountains, it connects the modern road with the surrounding high desert landscape and gives this part of Nevada an important geographic corridor.
