Union generals from Greensburg included Maj. Gen. Wm. T. Ward, born in 1808 and died in 1878, a congressman from 1851 to 1853 who recruited three regiments in this area, received Atlanta’s surrender on Sept. 2, 1864, and took part in Sherman’s March to Sea, and Brig. Gen. E.H. Hobson, born in 1825 and died in 1901, leader of the 13th Ky. Inf., which was engaged at Shiloh, Corinth, and Perryville, and who in July 1863 pursued Morgan across Ky. to his capture in N.E. Ohio.
