Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church was erected in 1865 after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Freed slaves used land given by Mr. Olympus Young, and Mr. Lawrence, a former slave owner, gave the worship bell. Its history includes more than thirteen ministers whose inspirational leadership ranged from one year to half a century of service, and many generations of loving families, friends, and neighbors have worshipped here.
