Beckley School, a country schoolhouse built in 1859 and named after early settler Ira Beckley, served as a neighborhood school for children through 1957. In its first year, thirty-three pupils attended a seven-month session and used a library of forty-two books. Instruction was offered in grades one through eight, though attendance was irregular in the early years. The maple trees that now surround the building were planted in 1866 by order of the district school board.
