Uncle Dick Hatcher grew these two trees from acorns in slop jars and planted them not long after the courthouse was built in 1928. They became known for Judge Wise's habit of sitting on the benches beneath them while teaching Masonic knowledge to new members. Later, local townsmen sat on the benches in their shade and discussed city happenings.
