Lake Hope State Park in southeastern Ohio occupies 2,983 acres within Zaleski State Forest and centers on the 120-acre Lake Hope, created on Big Sandy Run. The park takes its name from the mining village of Hope, Ohio, which was submerged when the lake was formed, leaving the former townsite beneath the water and one original building still standing. Nearby, the renovated one-room Hope School, Hope Furnace, and the Moonville Rail-Trail preserve the area’s industrial heritage. Established as Lake Hope Forest Park in 1937 and made a state park in 1949, it now serves as a destination for boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, camping, and cottage stays.
