Robert J. Loyd gifted this farm to the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences as a field station for research and experimentation in biological and related disciplines. He died on December 31, 1998. Because of his love of this land and his wish to honor his ancestors, the preservation of the farm stands as a tribute to those who loved and toiled on it and to their stewardship of the land and its fruits, including George Washington Loyd, James Loyd, Robert Lorenzo Loyd, and De Witt Willson Loyd.
