Businesses, schools, and public buildings in Victoria included the Patrick Henry Hotel and Theatre; Victoria Supply Company, one of five warehouses carrying building material, household goods, and hardware; the Bank of Victoria and the law office of R.S. Weaver, Jr., in the current municipal building; Brown's Shoe Parlor, owned by Robert and Elnora Brown; Victoria Elementary School and High School, with the original elementary school located adjacent to Victoria High School and the first major school construction in Victoria on Lee Avenue between 7th and 8th Streets, where a cupola later was removed; Kendig Bros. Hospital; Victoria Roller Mill; and Victoria's first official post office on Main Street between 9th and 10th Street, about the middle of the block on the rail side of the street below the Chevrolet Place, in a two-story building bought by J.E. Gary, who ran a bowling alley there and later sold it to C.C. Powell, after which it was for a time known as the Powell Building until it was torn down.
