Luthor List Mound
History
2
Luthor List Mound is an Adena burial mound in southern Ohio near Circleville, set on a small wooded ridge southeast of the city. Also called the Burning Mound or Signal Mound, it is one of Pickaway County’s larger burial mounds and is believed to hold the remains of many leading members of the society that built it. Its high-ground location matches a broader Adena pattern of interring important people in earthen mounds, often enlarged over time from smaller beginnings. About 12 feet high and at least 75 feet across, it survived white settlement with relatively little damage and remains a notably intact example of Adena monumental burial construction.
