Dixon Springs State Park is an 801-acre Illinois state park in Pope County in the Shawnee Hills of southern Illinois, about 10 miles west of Golconda near the junction of Illinois Routes 146 and 145. Its landscape is defined by geology: the park stands on a large block of rock that dropped about 200 feet along a fault running northwest across Pope County, helping create the rugged terrain of this part of the Shawnee Hills. Dixon Springs joined the state park system after the first land acquisition in 1946 and remains valued for its distinctive terrain and role in the protected landscape of southern Illinois.
