The Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory opened in two stages, with the bridge opening on December 30, 2006, and the observatory opening on May 19, 2007. This award-winning structure was planned, funded, permitted, designed, built, and opened to traffic in only 42 months, reflecting the remarkable vision and extraordinary teamwork of the partners who built it: the Maine Department of Transportation, Figg Engineering Group of Tallahassee, Florida, Clanbro/Reed and Reed, LLC of Pittsfield and Woolrich, Maine, and Governor John Elias Baldacci.
