Henry and Randolph's Debate
Civics
1
In March, 1799, Patrick Henry and John Randolph of Roanoke held a noted debate here on the question of States' Rights. Henry denied the right of a state to oppose oppressive Federal laws, while Randolph affirmed that right. This was Henry's last speech and Randolph's first, and Henry died three months later.
